Show HSIOERT W1LS0M ILL HOI FISS No Chance for the Postmaster at San Francisco to Retain Re-tain His Job. SAN FRANCISCO. July a. In reply to a demand, following a request from Postmaster General Burleson. Arthur G. Flsk again refused today to resign as postmaster of San Francisco. In answering answer-ing a telegram from Burleson, he wired. "I do not recognize tho right of anyone to remove me except tho president of the United States." Postmaster General Burleson's telegram to Postmaster Flsk was as follows: "Referring (o your telegram, inth ultimo., ul-timo., your resignation Is demanded and your removal will be effected for administrative admin-istrative reasons In the interest of better and moro economical service at tho San Francisco postofflce." A Postmaster Flsk replied: "I cannot know what administrative reasons may have arisen that would lead you to overthrow the custom and courtesy cour-tesy of years and to demand the resignation resig-nation of an official who has served as postmaster of this city for nearly ten years and who holds tho commission of lhe president of tho United States entitling en-titling him to continue to hold tho office for three years longer. "In view of tho correspondence on file at this office, I cannot understand your statement that the administrative reasons for my removal are to obtain better and more oconomical son-Ice. You have recently re-cently caused this office to be Inspected by eastern postofflce inspectors and if this investigation has developed deficiency In my office or any valid reason for my removal It ought to be mode public. "1 do not recognize the right of anyone any-one to remove me except the president of the United Slates. Notwithstanding my great respect for the office you hold, I must In Justice to myself respectfully but firmly refuse to comply with your demand de-mand for my resignation." |
