He said that complaints of Inefficiency of service in San Francisco had reached the department depart-ment from many sources. Finally formal charges against Mr. Flsk were filed and It was decided to give the postmaster an opportunity to resign. "I thought he would have preferred to have 'rcMgned' written after his name on the official records than 'removed,' " Mr. Burleson said today. Mr. Flsk declined to resign and a second sec-ond telecram was sent, to him further insisting in-sisting that he retire from the office, intimating in-timating that he would be removed If he did not comply with the demand. His latest telegram, in which he refused re-fused to recognize the right of anybody but the president to remove him, had not been received when the postofflce department de-partment closed today, but Postmaster General Burleson said that under the circumstances tho president undoubtedly would remove him. |
