Show EIGHT BALLOONS IN ELIMINATION RACE KANSAS CITY. July 3. Pilot H. E. Honeywell, by the medium of luck, earned tonight wfjat balioouists consider an advantage ad-vantage In the National Elimination balloon bal-loon race which will start from here tomorrow, to-morrow, when he drew the right to start last In the balloon race. This will enable him to go aloft in his balloon after the sun has set and in the cool air he will be able to conserve his balloon gas. The second lucky pilot was Roy F. Donaldson, who tonight changed the name of his balloon to tho "Overland." entrant of the Overland (Kansas) Aero club. It was planned tonight to start the first bag at 5:30 o'clock, the delay being used to conserve the gas. Eight balloons will start In tho race tomorrow. As announced 'today, the balloons bal-loons nnd pilots are: Kansas City II, Kansas City; John Watts. Drifter. Cincinnati; Albert Holz. Miss Sofia II. Si. Louis; William Ass-mnnn. Ass-mnnn. Million Population Club, St, Louis; Captain John Berry. Dusscldorfer, Indlnnupolls; G. L. Baum- oaugh. Goodyear. Akron, O.; R. II. Upson. Capital City. Springfield, III.: Roy Donaldson, Don-aldson, Kansas City Post. Kansas City; Captain Cap-tain II. E. Honeywell. The Kansas City III. -the pilot balloon, will stnrt nn hour ahead of ihe contestants contest-ants and will be piloted bv- ic, s. Cole of St. Louis. He will take as passengers passen-gers Miss Helen Meyers, iinughter of the president of the Kansas City Aero club; Miss Grace Llnlnger and Miss Vivian Whltcomb. The elimination race Is to determine which three of the balloons shall represent repre-sent America in the International races for the Jomes Gordon Bennett trophv to be held In Trance next fall. |
