FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp LAST HOME GAME SUNDAY The BDAA Athletics, after meeting American Fork last night, play host to the Provo Timps this Sunday, August 21st I at 8:15 p.m. in what will be the last home game of Industrial league lea-gue play. The Timps have won all five games from the local nine, but most of them have been by very narrow margins. Manager Man-ager Zaccaria and his gang of first year men will be trying to upset the veteran Timp crew and art capable of doing just such a trick. Final Two Games Away BDAA plays its final two games gam-es away from home; at Brigham City on Wednesday, August 24 and the last one at Magna at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 28. Last Saturday the BDAA squad, along with players from American Fork and Provo, comprised com-prised an All-Star team that played a benefit game against the Helper Merchants at Helper. Proceeds of the game went to the family of one of the Helper ball players. DeCol took the first 3-inning 3-inning stand on the mound and allowed only one run. Morgan of Provo and Woodbury of American Ameri-can Fork worked the last six innings as the Merchants took an 8 to 6 verdict. In the league game Sunday, also at the Helper park, the Merchants Mer-chants blasted four runs across in each of the 7th and 8th stanzas stan-zas to defeat BDAA 11 to 4. The Bingham crew gave the Merchants Merch-ants a great battie for six innings behind the find mound chore of Stuckenschneider and the hitting of Nichols who blasted one a-gainst a-gainst the left center field fence and another into left center to score two runs. A V .... rT A A score two runs. A flock of errors was BDAA's undoing in the last two frames as Pess-'tto got out of trouble several times for the Helper nine. PLAY AT FIELD DAY BDAA baseball nine will play the Magna team at 3:30 p.m. at Kennecott Field Day at Lagoon on Monday, August 22. At 5 p.m. the A & M softball squad will play the Magna nine. A & M has nil but won both halves of the BDAA sottball race and stack up well with most teams in the state so should give the mill nine a hot contest. SOFTBALL SLANTS A & M, last year's champs and winners of the first half of this season's play, virtually clinched second half honors the past week with three decisive victories. In a post-poned game, the leaders trounced Lark 7 to 0 and took the measure of Emerald club 12 to 2. Their third game was a pitchers battle with A & M taking tak-ing a close 3 to 0 win from the Bingham Merchants. B. R. & S. G. showed a lot of late season power by taking the measure of Lark 16 to 8 and knocking Gemmell out of a tie for first place by a 13 to 9 score. Gemmell won their other game from the Eagles 7 to 4. Emerald club evened their two games by winning over the Lions 11 to 9 and the Merchants also outran the Lions just 31 to 16. The Eagles Eag-les also split as they defeated Lark 9 to 4. Round Robin Soon A round robin playoff will be held next week among the soft-ball soft-ball squads to determine winner of the second trophy. The league winner will be awarded a beautiful beau-tiful trophy for the 1949 championship champ-ionship and the other trophy will be given to the winner of the round robin tourney. Both of these beautiful trophies have been on display at Tangaro's Beverage's. Bev-erage's. Bowling Season Nears In just a few weeks, another bowling season will get underway. under-way. Teams from Bingham that have rolled in the two fast leagues lea-gues at Sugarhouse and Salt Lake have planned on again entering en-tering this last competition. Last year BDAA keglers finished 4th in the Salt Lake Major Traveling i league and the Gemmell club five finished well up in the Southside league. Get the equipment out fellows the ten pin season is just about upon us. I o |
