Show . . Sports Here and There by Al Ablett The Bingham American Legion team went down swinging in j Arizona. Losing the last game 8 a v iu i huliha. i ue v-aniornia team from Oakland won. It was a nice trip for the kids and one thing we are always sure of is that our boys have been a credit to the community. A bunch of the fellows talking the other day and it came out that not one boy that has taken part in playground and American Legion ball ever got into trouble. It we, the people peo-ple of this community, gave this phase of recreation more thought I am sure we would make a greater effort in helping to put this program over. Wherever our kids play they! have made many friends. Helper j the scene of this year's state tourney, tour-ney, is crazy about them. Heard j everywhere "the nicest bunch of; kids we ever saw." You hear, these things and it makes you ! proud to say "I'm from Bingham." Bing-ham." But from now on w? should do something to earn that right by doing something for Bingham. The Industrial league race is as close as it is in the National. American Am-erican Fork, Helper and Magna ' are in the thick ot it. By the end I of this week a different favorite should emerge. American Fork took a tough one from Brigham City Wednesday, 2 to 0. Tate besting McConneli in an old fashioned fash-ioned pitchers duel. Magna won from Brigham City on Tuesday night 11 to 4. Helper took Bingham Bing-ham by the same score last Sunday. Sun-day. There are three more games on the docket this week. I am afraid that St. Louis Browns put Cleveland out of the American league race with that double win Wednesday. Boston Red Sox is the team the Yanks will have to watch from here in. In the National, Brooklyn and the Cards are still closer than the Siamese twins. But I think in the j run to the wire the Cards have j too many pros. I This writer had to turn down ' an honor that I have aspired too j for a long time. Mr. Ray DuMont, president of the National semi-pro semi-pro congress, cacd me to be one ot 'the umpires in the national tournament to be held in Wichita, Kans., from the 19th of August until Labor day, Sept. 5. Had to tell him sorry. See you next week. AL |
