Mrs. Chris Scott was hostess last Friday afternoon to the Lawata club and several special guests. Progressive Pro-gressive bridge was the main diversion, diver-sion, tour tables belngl played. A dainty lunch was served late in the afternoon. The tables each were centered cen-tered with carnations, and the menu and decorations were suggestive of Xmas. The special guests were Mesdames Leo Meredith, Eldon Chipman, Bum Harrington and Le-Moyne Le-Moyne Despain, and Miss Agnes Fir-mage. Fir-mage. Mrs. David S. Taylor won flie club prize and Mrs. Leo Meredith Mere-dith the guest favor. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Morton and daughter have returned home from a three week's visit in Richmon; with Mr. Morton's relatives. Abel accompanied ac-companied by their daughter, Mrs. Elmer Clarkson and husband of Provo, left Tuesday for Elwood where they will spend several days visiting Mrs. Abel's daughters in that vicinity. Mrs. Joseph Walton and Mrs. Lloyd B. Adamson entertained last Monday night at the Walton home for Miss Helen Bird, a bride of the near future. There were thirty-six ladies present and all enjoyed playing play-ing "Hearts". Prizes were won by Mrs. Lenard Chipman and Mrs. A. F. Gaisf ord. A pink and white color scheme prevailed in the house decorations dec-orations and menu. A tasty lunch was served at the small tables. Miss Bird was presented with a number of lovely gifts. R. L. Ashby left Tuesday "afternoon "after-noon and returned Wednesday evening eve-ning from a visit in Tremonton with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Arbon. Eldon Crookston has returned home from Shelley, Idaho, where he has been employed during the past several months in the sugar factory there. Next Tuesday afternoon the ladies of the Fourth ward Relief Society will enjoy a Christmas program preceded pre-ceded by their regular Literary lesson. les-son. The m3tings !wi31 adjourn during the holidays until January 2nd. Master David Smith was taken home from the hospital last Friday after being confined there several days following an accident. The Variety club was entertained on Friday night last by Mrs. Clarence Clar-ence Grant. Lunch was served early in the evening, after which bridge was played, three tables be-in be-in progress. The club prize was won by Mrs. Mate Earl, the guest The members of the Senior classes class-es of the M. I. A.'s of this city met conjonitly last Tuesday evening with the Second ward M. I. A. and enjoyed en-joyed greatly a talk given by Mrs. Elsie Talmage Brandley of the M. I. A. General Board. Mrs. Brandley talked on various phases of the topics outlined for study by these classes and especially on the wise use of leisure time. Those present were invited to join the Second ward in a social dance in the amusement amuse-ment hall afterwards. This is the first of several conjoint projects for the Seniors of the wards. The Gospel Doctrine class of the Fourth waard Sunday School honored hon-ored their former teacher, James H. Pulley, who recently retired from office, by having a surprise party at his home Wednesday night. The party was arranged by L. B. Adam-son, Adam-son, present teacher, and committees commit-tees from the class. The usual so cial diversions were enjoyed and refreshments were served. Mr. Pul-J ley was presented with a year's subscription sub-scription to the "Era", as a token of appreciation and esteem. He taught this class for a number of years. Mrs. Ernest McDaniel of Alpine, was a wek-end visitor with her mother, moth-er, Mrs. Nell Proctor. CCC camp and is at presen-: , ployed in American Fork car The Feality club enjoyed greatly a "no hostess-depression" party Thursday afternoon of last week held at the home of Mrs. Norman B. Wing. The club members came garbed in costumes typical of the depression and some the depression would scarcely own, and spent the afternoon playing bridge. Mrs. Walter Wal-ter Steffen won the high score prize, Mrs. John Wing the cut prize and Mrs. Mark Osterloh the consolation prize. The ladies then prepared lunch together, each having brought different parts of the menu which when put together proved to be a surprisingly delicious assortment of edibles. Last Friday night the Misses Mildred Mil-dred Chipman and Sarah Earl entertained en-tertained at the Chipman home in compliment to Miss Helen .Bird, whose marriage to Lennis Abel takes place in the near future. The guests enjoyed playing Monte Carlo Car-lo Whist, Miss Lucile Bird winning the high score prize. Pink and white were effectively combined in the decorative scheme. A tasty lunch was served late in the evening. The party was in the nature of a linen shower and a number of handsome hand-some gifts were recived. Those present pres-ent were Mrs. K. J. HOSPITAL NOTES Mrs. John Walker (Liiiie Miller) and new baby daughter left the hospital Thursday for their home. William Pace, son of Dr. Garland H. Pace of the Utah State hospital, hos-pital, and Paul Bird of Salt Lake, were rushed to the hospital at 1:30 a. m. Sunday following an auto accident ac-cident between here and Pleasant Grove when Pace's car crashed into a utility pole after striking a stray horse on the 'highway. Mr. Pace was rendered unconscious for several sever-al hours and suffered a crushed right arm. The arm was x-rayed Sunday. Mr. Bird sustained a severe cut on the head. Pace was removed to the Aird hospital in Provo Sunday Sun-day and Bird returned to his home Sunday morning. prize by Mrs. Frank Brown and the consolation favor by Mrs. Wilson Cunningham. The special guests were Mrs. Frank Brown, Mrs. Milton Mil-ton Adams and Mrs. Harvell Bennett. Ben-nett. Mrs. Laurence Briggs entertained at her home Friday afternoon in honor of the Sorosis club ladies. The afternoon was spent in playing bridge, six tables being in progress. A delicious lunch was served, after which the ladies planned a Xmas club party. The house decorations and menu were carried out in keeping keep-ing with Xmas. Mesdames Elmer Bate, Thomas Priday, Ruben Chir man, Hans Christensen, Stanford Briggs, Ben Halliday, G. A. Anderson Ander-son of this city; Mrs. J. O. Meiling of Lehi and Mrs. Merle Coombs of Pleasant Grove were special guests. The members of the First ward Relief Society enjoyed a Xmas program pro-gram and social Tuesday afternoon. The program was as follows: Singing, Sing-ing, "Beautiful Words of Love"; prayer, Mrs. Ida Haag; trio, "Winter", "Win-ter", Mrs. Doris C. Robinson, Golda and Mack Cunningham; reading, "The Inventor's Wife", Mrs. Florence Draper; reading, '"Why He Couldn't Sell the Old Farm", Mrs. Emma Bennett; vocal duet, "Jolly .Old St. Nicholas", Mrs. Ann Huggard and Mrs. Cynthia Okey; two readings, Mrs. Hannah Ashby of the Stake Board; original stunt, "Brother and Sister First ward and Their Family Ion Xmas Eve." Santa was present and following the program dispensed delicious popcorn to those present, after which Xmas games were enjoyed en-joyed under the direction of Mrs. Pearl Cunningham. A display of aprons and other hand work suitable suit-able for practical gifts was made under the direction of Mrs. May Mercer. The entertainment committee com-mittee headed by Mrs. Ida Haag was in charge of the program. |
