The following are d some questions and anin tree-relate- swers. Question: I have rings of holes around my trees. Can you give me advice on what to do? Answer: If the holes are in the bark and they are aligned horizontally, they are probably from a sapsucker, a bird related to the woodpecker. peck into the inner bark to feed on sap or resin. These birds tend to feed on the same tree or trees year after year as they migrate through the area during the summer. The only way to attempt prevention of this is to wrap the trunk loosely with woven-wir- e hardware cloth or to watch for the birds and try to disrupt their feeding with noise or commotion. Question: What trees and large shrubs are safe to use around septic systems and leach lines? Answer: Most trees can grow roots into broken sewer lines. Since Sap-sucke- septic system lines already have Renee Lance www mauremoab com holes, roots can easily invade. Avoid fast growing trees like silver maples, cottonwoods and willows.
