What does that mean in dairying, stock raising and the poultry industry also all farm products-Can products-Can a fanner fail where he has these three conditions, good land, good, pure wate and unlimited un-limited market? These are some of the following facts: The two intermountain states Idaho and Utah, sent approximately approxi-mately 17,000,000 pounds of butter but-ter to the California market last year- Of this volume, about 11,000,000 pounds came from Idaho dairy farms and 3,000,-000 3,000,-000 from Utah. The year before 1925, Idaho shipped appromiat-ly appromiat-ly 8,500,000 pounds and Utah 2,-000,000. 2,-000,000. Last year Idaho led in butter shipments to California , markets among states outside of i California. Idaho's shipment to los Angeles alone was 13,101,103 ; pounds. Montana and Oregon . shipped practically equal quantities quan-tities to San Francisco, Mon- tana sending 1,934,838 pounds, and Oregon 1,922,348 pounds. Eighteen states sent butter to California last year to supply the demand which could not be met at home. Big Coast Demand It required 103,042,537 lbs. of butter to satisfy the demands de-mands of California's rapidly growing population in 1926. Of this total the southern California Califor-nia markets, Los Angeles and sister cities purchased 44,981,-036 44,981,-036 pounds- The years' total also shows that Los' Angeles imported from outside California Califor-nia 52 per cent of the butter to satisfy her mand, while San Francisco imported 26 per cent- Calfironia dairy concerns 74,117,880 pounds of butter last year, leaving the import volume at 28,924,657. This total makes it apparent that Idaho's shipments ship-ments were practically equal to the combined amount of the other seven states counting the California market for dairy products. pro-ducts. Receipts of butter at Los Angeles An-geles were 44,043,721 pounds, of which 22,022,398 pounds originated origin-ated in California. The San Francisco market received 27,-604168 27,-604168 pounds, of which 20,-700,924 20,-700,924 pounds came within the state. The above figures do not include products manufactured within the counties containing Los Angeles and San Francisco. Addition of the home manufactured manufac-tured products gives Los Angeles An-geles a year's total of 44,701,-036 44,701,-036 pounds and San Francisco 34,038,288 pounds. Southern Utah Expanding States other than Idaho and Utah figuring heavily in the California butter market include Washington, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado. New Mexico and Arizona. Dairymen in that sec-' ton of the state insist that, be-, cause they are nearest to the! growing California market, they are excellntly situatd to com-! mand a greater cut of the business- This expansion is most: pronounced in southern Utan counties in Beaver county re-; gion, around Meaver, Miners- i ville and Milford. It will be just a short time until this will bej one of Utah's greatest dairy sections. Farmers in these regions re-gions have been importing dairy stuff from Cash Valley, oldest dairy regions in the inter-mountain states, at a rapid rate this spring. It is evident that 40,000 lbs. of butter pass through Milford each day on it's way to Los Angeles. An-geles. This means the butter fat from 1,250,000 pounds of milk production from 22,000 A. No. 1 cows. It requires 45,-000 45,-000 acres of alfalfa and grain producing land to support the cows necessary to produce the milk which, turned into butter, passes thrugh Milford each day on its way to market. Milford is in a position to build its dairying business to the capacity capa-city of its lands with the demand growing, and wonderful natural conditions so condusive to perfect dairying and marketing-In marketing-In other words, Milford can and will be a dairying center for southern California. |
