Show A NATION'S CRIME Ever since the war, there has been more or less talk about "the crime wave" and those interested in the welfare of the country have spent weeks and months trying to figure out a solution, but they seem to be just as far away as they were seven years ago. The great crime in America today is the lack of interest on the part of our people in civic affairs. Why shouldn't we have a penalty for the man or woman who is "to busy" co go to the polls on election day? Whv should it be necessary for the American Legion and other organza-tions organza-tions to almost beg our people to do their duty ? The man or woman who is "too busy" to vote on matters al-fectng al-fectng the community in which they live is not entitled to citizenship and and a third offense, without a legitimate legiti-mate excuse, should automatically cancel any citizenship rights they may have. It is not fair to the country or its people, to allow vote slackers equal rights. If a man or woman isn't interested enough in the country coun-try to take a little time off to assist as-sist in running it, hey certainly are not entitled to the benefits derived from the loyalty of others. It is a disgrace that .any election should be held at which there is less than a fifty per cent vote cast. Why should a few of the citizens carry the whole burden? The time is coming when some method of forcing these slackers slack-ers to vote, must be adopted, and the quicker it is done the better ofi our country will be. The cancellation cancella-tion of a few citizenship rights would soon wake these folks up. |
