Show 1931 Statistics on Wild Life According to the Fish and Game I census compiled recently in the supervisor's Office at Richfield there were 2,291,000 fish planted in the streams of the Fishlake National Na-tional Forest during the spring and summer of 1931. This exceeds the 1930 plantings by some 922,000 fish The size of these fish at the time of the planting ranged from 2 to 10 Inches in length. These fish will mostly be of legal size by the opening of the 1932 fishing season and should afford some in-forottinir in-forottinir moments for the in creasing number of visitors to this Forest. The census lists the game animals ani-mals at 5 brown bear; 28.000 mule deer and 460 elk. This is an increase in-crease of 85 elk and 7300 deer over the 1930 census. 4386 deer and 17 elk were killed in 1931 by 9229 hunters as compared to 3552 deer and 3 elk killed by 7475 hunters in 1931. According to Mr. Cox, in charge of the Fish Lake Ranger District, the census lists the number of fur bearing animals as foUows: 96 beaver; 51 fox, 17 martin, 20 mink, 600 badger and 160 ermine. Predatory animals: 1545 coyote: 640 lynx, 145 mountain lion; 1 lone wolf, and 5550 porcupine. 2183 porcupine were eradilated. 720 of these were killed on the Beaver District, largely through the efforts of Ranger Christensen. The Bilogical Survey Trappers captured 374 coyotes; 9 mountain lions and 60 lynx. Local hunters captured 275 coyotes, 35 mountain lions and 212 lynx. |
