Show 400 Participate in Music Work Nearly four hundred University of Utah students took part in tht musical activities of the school in he fall quarter accrdng to Professor Prof-essor Thomas Giles, head of the department of music. He reports that the quarter just closed was the most active In the hisory of he department. The University Pep Band played play-ed at every home football game and also played at the charity game at Portland, Oregon between the University of Utah and Ore-gon Ore-gon State University. One cf the highlights of the department's de-partment's activities was the seven sev-en hour program given on the day of dedication of the Union Building. Build-ing. The orchestra and men's quartet took part in the presentation o he varsity play, "Miss Nelly of N'Oileans" in Kingsbury Hall. Various other musical groups such as the double quartet, piano septet, girl's quartet as well as several soloists have given nearly a score of conceits in Salt Lake City and other centers. The fall quarter was climaxed by a week's engagement of the men's glee club, girl's quartet and piano septet at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles during the Christmas holidays. Students from every part of the state as well as several adjoining states are active In the musical work of the jniversity, Professor Giles reports. i |
