Show Urges Reform Capitalism is warned by Dr. Irving Irv-ing Fisher, prominent economist, that it must reform or expect to be superceded by some form of socialism. Depression, he described, describ-ed, as a "private profit disease." Dr. Fisher states thai- he was not so "cocksure" about capitalism as in his youth. "What I am sure of is that if capitalism finds itself it-self unable to clean the dirt of depression de-pression out of its very foundations, founda-tions, railed profit, some form of socialism will devour capitalism," he said. Those who prefer capitalism to socialism should lend their support sup-port to liberal leaders in this country who are seeking to improve im-prove capitalism by correcting its outstanding abuses. Unfair distribution dis-tribution of the profits of industry creation of fictous values to support sup-port watered stock, and an incurable incur-able greediness which produces periodic booms and depressions, and a stubborn refusal to consider human rights as superior to property prop-erty rights, are some of the present pres-ent evil characteristics of capitalism capital-ism which must be altered to avoid complaint. Economists and legislators who act towards these desirable ends are not necessarily "Reds" but more farseeing and wiser than the nearsighted capitalists who can't see past the dollars in front of their eyes |
