Show SETTLERS MUST APPLY SOON Delta L. & W. Co. May Have to It Foreign Ijibor Contract It will be unfortunate for the community If It becomes neces- sary for the Delta Land & Water Co. to send out of the state for labor to undertake the large farming operations on the project the coming season. When asked about the matter this morning, Supt. McPherson informed us that he had receiv- ed less than a dozen appllca- Hons from Beaver county resl- dents for the work. He said, "Spring will probably open up all at once, and the long winter having prevented plowing and other preparations for frhe sea- son's work, we must have over a hundred men to got real busy when the conditions will per- mit." Unless there are a great many more applications received from local people In tho next two or three weeks, an arrange- ment will be made with a con- tractor of foreign labor to take the work at a less figure than that offered to the settlers. This Is a matter that con- corns not only the settlors, but every business man of Milford. If the wttlerR are employed, the money received from the company will be largely spent at borne, If tho foreigners are employed, the bulk of the mon- y paid for wages will be ship- ped out of the community. |
