Show "SAFETY FIRST" MEASURE NEEDED HERE The Salt Lake crossings south of the depot in Milford are a source of constant danger to the life, limb and pursuit of happiness of the citizens and travelers generally. There have been numerous near accidents at those crossings. Milford has outgrown out-grown the cross-roads town or mere railroad siding-conditions siding-conditions where such an open menace to safety of travelers might be practical or tolerable- It was only by mere good fortune that two men were not instantly instant-ly killed there Wednesday evening. A bell signal is probably not practical at that point because of its proximity to the depot on one side and to the coal, j stock and other sidings and the round house on the t other. The bell would be ringing most of the time. The safest method of protection at those crossings t would probably be a permanent switchman or auto-; auto-; matic drop bars. Some sane and practical method of protection and safety should, however-, be provided t without unnecessary delay. |
