Show Three Councilmen, Treasurer Posts Will Be Contested Exactly two months from today, to-day, Nov. 6, residents of Roosevelt Roos-evelt City will have an opportunity oppor-tunity of going to the polls and electing three new city councilmen and a treasurer to serve during the succeeding four years. This will be the second sec-ond time since the legislature of Utah changed the municipal election laws to make mayor and councilmen terms for four years instead of two, that the new law has controlled city elections. Those who will retire from the Council at the end of the present pres-ent year; unless elected to succeed suc-ceed themselves, will be Councilmen Coun-cilmen Don Johnson, Steve Bel-Ion Bel-Ion and Elmer Eldredge, and Marvel Nielsen, treasurer. Mr. Bellon completes a 4-year term and the other two councilmen were elected two years ago for two year terms, as was the treasurer. Mr. Nielson was not elected to the treasurer's post two years ago, but was appointed to fill . the unexpired term of Devoe Lambert, who resigned after having been chosen by the people peo-ple to be the treasurer. Other members of the council who will remain on the job during the next two years include in-clude Mayor Homer P. Edwards, Recorder George Hacking, and Councilmen B e n n i e Schmiett and Paul Murphy. The new municipal election calls for primary nomination conventions to be held between October 8 and 22, at which time various parties may select candidates can-didates to compete in the Nov. . 6 election Two registration dates are slated, for October 9 and 30. . |
