Show School News FIFTH GRADE REPORT There was an old witch Who fell in a ditch She found a penny And thought she was rich. HAROLD BELL. NEWS ITEMSSIXTII GRADE On the first day of school every boy and girl in our room decided to not be absent or tardy this year. There are thirty-two pupils in our room. All but eleven have kept their records clean. I have not been tardy or absent yet and I don't expect to be. Today our grade had a pie sale. We turned over to the playground fund $6.84 Ten of our pupils took part in the P. T. A. program last evening. The fifth grade challenged us to a spelling match. We hope to win. The results will be given Monday. What produces more real happiness than the joy of serving others? High school, education adds to the ni.perclation.and happiness of life. Education Ed-ucation is a decided benefit in-expanding one's ideas and views. Education Educa-tion helps in selecting the better and higher things of life. Education makes life happier because in teaching one to appreciate the broader and better side of life it makes one happy. High school education insures success suc-cess to its graduates. In learning to do everything at the right time and the way it should be done, a habit is formed, one of the most beneficial hab its to man. For the man that does everything ev-erything at the right time and place is a successful man. So it is with our school. As we cultivate the habit of doing our lesson assignments each day we are planning a life habit, one that will stay with us. If we slight our lessons, we cannot succeed, because be-cause we will not be able to get through high school, and If we slight one thing we will slight another. SEPTEMBER CURTAINS We have decorated our windows with wild oak leaves and wild currant leaves. Another time we had lilac and boxelder leaves on them. There are scarlet squaw berry leaves and yellow maple leaves on them now. We have orange crepe paper to pin the different differ-ent leaves on. SHIRLEY MURRAY, 4th Grade. DUCHESNE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS Editor: Kella Beckstead Oh, Yes, the editors remembered to work this week. The school has been alive and there is some news. The girls have organized a Home Economics Club, with the following officers: of-ficers: President, Clara Meyhew; Vice President, Rhoda Reynolds; Secretary Sec-retary and Treasurer, Frona Morrison. Mor-rison. This organization is going to give every High School a good opportunity oppor-tunity to become better home-makers. We will take up home decoration, cooking, sewing and care of children. The Freshmen have planned a class party for Saturday. Oh, what a time they will have. Lets all wish them good luck and a good time. The High School athletics and the town athletics are sponsoring an exciting ex-citing game of football Sunday, October Oc-tober 12, In the town park. Let's all attend and show the athletics our appreciation ap-preciation of a good time. The town had better get in a lot of practice if they expect to beat our High School boys. Reports of the game will appear next week. A High School Newspaper will be published monthly, the following stud-ents stud-ents will help make it a roaring success: suc-cess: Editor Rella Beckstead; assistant assist-ant editor, Rita Bates; business manager, man-ager, Grant Brown; circulation manager man-ager Thelda Worrell; exchange editor, Joseph Rollens; art editor, Thelma Adams and proof reader, Miss Mc-Clellan. Mc-Clellan. The paper will contain school news and coming events, etc. Our Home Economics department has been busy making pajamas, they are almost done.' They will sell pop corn next week to buy window curtains cur-tains for the sewing room. The Sth and 9th grade girls have been studying breakfasts. The 8th garde made cooking aprons before they started to cook. The 9th grade have had' a health poster contest. Frona Morrison won first prize for the best poster; Selma Bates won second and Grace White, third. PHYSIOLOGY NEWS 10TH GRADE Man gets his health by doing and not thinking. There is usually three "General j Alms" in Right living. They are as follows : 1. Living in such manner as to keep up our health foundation. 2. Living in such manner as to form and keep a desirable number of health giving habits. 3. .Living in such manner as to correct cor-rect or overcome any defects or weaknesses weak-nesses that may already exist. Our Health is based on nine foundations foun-dations that are necessary to the welfare wel-fare of the cells. Health Foundations Good muscles: correct shape: normal nor-mal circulation: good digestion: strong nerves: good elimination: normal nor-mal breathing: germ freedom and hygienic disposition. THEME Meaning of High School Education High School education does not begin be-gin when one enters high school and registers as a student there, but it begins be-gins when the age of six is reached, when one enters his first school. It requires many hours pondering over the a, b, c.s. It requires the first reading read-ing lesson. It requires every step taken tak-en in district school before it is possible pos-sible to gain a high school education. High school education pays because be-cause it results In safe and sane citizenship. citi-zenship. Education does away with savagery. It produces clean men and women with a bright future. He. who Is striving will continue to strive to become someone worthwhile, someone ; who is created to his fellow men be- cause knowledge creates desire for I advancement. High school education Increases the ; ability and desire to serve others. The ; lessons taken each day increase the ability of doing things. The ability of o |
