Show JOSEPH RIRIE OPPOSES OP-POSES COLTON AUDITOR IN BAMBERGER AD1-MINISTRATION AD1-MINISTRATION DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE Joseph. Rirle, who wasstate auditor during the regime of the late Governor Govern-or Simon Bamberger, from 1917 to 1920, Wednesday became the candidate candi-date of the Democratic party for congress con-gress to represent the First District of Utah. His opponent is the presetn congressman, Don B. Colton of Vernal. Ver-nal. ' Mr. Ririe is the nominee o fthe Democratic Dem-ocratic committee of the First Utah congressional district which through its chairman, Stuart P. Dobbs, of Og-den, Og-den, made the filing with Milton II. Welling, secretary of state. The Democratic Demo-cratic convention for the district nominated nom-inated Frank Francis, former mayor of Ogden, but Mr. Francis withdrew from the race during the time the nomination nom-ination was placed on file. The new candidate is a native of Ogden, where he lives. He Is secretary and treasurer of the Union Construction Construc-tion company. Mr. Ririe jumped to the progressive ranks in 1912, being progressive Republican candidate for the state senate. In 191G he was elected elect-ed on the Democratic ticket to be state auditor, when a Democratic landslide land-slide swept the state. During his four year term Mr. Ririe Ri-rie obtained considerable clarification of the laws covering the duties of the state auditor, by filing or defending mandamus cases In the supreme court; He was an ex-offieio member of the state board of insanity and of the state road commission. |
