Show MORE OF THE "MORAL" CRUSADE. Joe Bush and C. E. Pearson Fur nitih tho Police Court Sensation Sensa-tion To-Day. . After waiting over an hour this morning morn-ing in the Police Court for the witnesses for the prosecution, the trial of Joseph Bush charged with resorting to Fanny Davenport's house of ill-fame tor lewdness, lewd-ness, was called. The court-room was filled with a crowd of people, old and young, of different classes, many of whom were Mormons. W. C. Hall appeared for Bush. A demurrer, de-murrer, like that in the Lewis case, was entered without argument and promptly overruled by the Justice. A plea of not guilty was entered. Witnesses were then sworn. R. B. Young and Officers Salmon and Hilton testified for the prosecution, the defense offering no testimony. The witnesses' testimony was such that the court adjudged ad-judged Bush guilty of the charge and imposed im-posed a sentence of $300 and imprisonment imprison-ment for a term of three months in the county jail. Notice of appeal was given, and $800 bonds were made out. The case of C. E. Pearson, charged with the same offense with Mrs. Fields, was the next case called, Mr. Hoffman appearing for Pearson. " A demurrer was entered with the same result as in the I previous cases. The plea of not guilty was made and the following witnesses sworn and testified: Dr. Clinton, Officers Salmon, Pickett and Burt. All witnesses but the one who testified were excluded from the room. The defense submitted the case without giving testimony or argument. The Court thought a plain case had been made out, but judgment was suspended till 3 o'clock this afternoon. after-noon. . |
