Lead Market. - During the past week lead has responded respond-ed in the West to an advance in the East and prices all around are at a very high level, in fact, pretty close to the top notch under existing circumstances. . At St. Louis $4.20 and $4.25 has been paid for several hundred tons of common, and $4.30 to $4.35 is asked for corroding. At Chicago some 500 tons sold at $4.35, and at New ork nearly 1,000 tons were sold at $4.35, $4.40 and $4.50, mostly common and for December and January shipment.' ! There has not been such a scarcity of I lea all over the countrv, both in surplus i and currently made stock for vears past, and the only check to the advance is in the asportation limit. At present the London price is 12 Ss.; or $4.70 to $4.75. laid down at New York, dutv paid, and as we cannot approach that figure nearer than 10 cents, we mav safelv say that $4.60 in New York, is the "high-water mark, un.ess Lurope advances still more. On the other hand, domestic manufacturers manufactur-ers have very light stocks.a ruinous fight on pipe and shot that uses up lare quantities, quan-tities, and must buy freely ere long, so that we may safely predict a season of remunerative rates. |
