Quite a noted group-of California ladies had a special ! audience with the President on Saturday, and were presented by Mr. Edward Curtis. Among them were, Mrs. Arnold, of Sacra-mentcr Sacra-mentcr Mis3 Hattie Crocker, a ten million heiress'- Mrs. General Williams; Miss But- terfieldVW '-3 Mis3 Hamilton, a sister of Lady . f " Waterloo. The President expressed great satisfaction in meeting these ladies, and said they were the kind of visitors he liked to see, a3 he was sure they were not hunting for office." He said he had always desired to visit California, which had been a land of mystery and romance to him, and that he hoped to be able to go there in a year or so. He was assured that he would receive a warm reception in the Golden State, should he visit it. He treated the ladies with great consideration, and had them specially shown over the Executive Mansion. - |
