A joint resolution for the distribution of 200 maps in the hands of the Territorial Treasurer, was reported from the House as having passed there, and passed its first and second readings. These maps were purchased two years ago by the Legislative Assembly, which body failed to make the distribution intended in-tended by this resolution. A motion to refer to the Committee on Judiciary prevailed. C. F. No. 14, apportioning representa-tion,was representa-tion,was made a special order for January 2fit.h. " H. F. Minutes of yesterday read and approved. Mr. Grover, chairman of Committee on Judiciary, reported bactc C. F. 22, a bill to provide for assignments, with recommendation recom-mendation for its passage ; also C. F. 23, a bill to amend sections 194 and 196 Code of Civil Procedure. Placed on file. Also H. J. R. 16, placed on file for second reading. read-ing. H. F. 9, a bill for the selection and payment of jurors, with recommendation for its passage. Francis, chairman of Committee on Claims and Public Accounts, reported back the petition of Jos. H. Parry & Co., with recommendation that the amount $86.60 for printing done, be appropri ated.. - . No. 8, a bill pertaining to, highways, high-ways, special order, taken up and passed its second reading; placed on file for its third. C. F. No. 23 passed its second reading. H. F. No. 9 passed its second reading and was placed on file. The House. January, 25. The following bills passed their second reading: C, F. No. 6, relating to the licensing of venders of garden, farm and orchard products. pro-ducts. . V . C. F. No. 7, amending sections 4 and 5, chapter 45, Laws of 1884,- as reported back by the Committee on Private Corporations. Cor-porations. C. F. No. 18, providing that punishments punish-ments for misdemeanors shall not exceed ex-ceed six months in the -county jails, or $300 fine, or both, a3 reported back by the Committee on Judiciary. H. R. No. 16, relating to the disposition disposi-tion of 200 of West's maps of Utah, as reported re-ported back by the Committee on Counties, Coun-ties, with amendments, was read for the third time. The bill provides that copies of the map shall be distributed to the Territorial, county and certain of the Federal Fed-eral officers, to the Asylum and University; Univer-sity; and that the Territorial. Treasurer, after reserving four, shall sell the remainder, re-mainder, twenty-six copies, at $5 each and place the proceeds in the Territorial Treasury. The amendment to strike out the word "collectors" was carried, but the motion to reserve the thirtv maps for future use was lost. The bill as amended passed by a unanimous vote. H. R. No. 12, relating to the compilation compila-tion and publication of the laws of Utah Territory, -was taken up. A motion to re-commit to the Conference Committee was carried. A message from the Council was read to the effect that C. F. No. 10, supplemental supple-mental to Chapter 6, Session Laws of 1884, relating to the protection of fish and game, had passed that body. The bill was read and referred to the Committee Com-mittee on Fish and Game. The House then adjourned until to-day at 2 p. m. January 26. House met pursuant to adjournment.. Thurman presented a statement from Benj. Bachman, deputy clerk First. District Dis-trict Court. Received and referred to' Committee on Claims and Public Accounts. Hatch presented a communication from Prof. White, instructor of deaf mutes in the Deseret University, representing that a separate institute costing not less than $25,000, would be beneficial to the deaf mutes of the Territory. Read and referred to the Committee on Education. Rider presented a petition from R. M. Robinson and others, asking for an appropriation ap-propriation - to construct a wagon road through Piute county.' Petition read and referred to the Committee on Highways. High-ways. . Communications were read bv the Speaker from various persons, thankins the House for privileges extended. Thurman reported that the Committee on Public Claims and Accounts had recommended rec-ommended that the reports of the officers 1 of the various counties be referred to the Committee on Counties. Thurman submitted the report of the Joint Conference Committee on the Compilation Com-pilation of the Laws of Utah, with the request that it be put upon its passage Young moved that the House adopt the report of the committee. Smoot presented a bill amending Sec 4, Chap. 1, .laws of 1884. Referred to Committee on Asylum for Insane. Kimball presented a bill refering to the protection of fish and game and amending amend-ing Sec. 2 chapter 6 of the existing Jaw. Refered to Committee on Fish and Game. A resolution was presented by Riter that a committee of -three be appointed by the Speaker to act with a like committee com-mittee from the Council to examine and destroy received Auditor's warrants Resolution adopted and the Speaker apl pointed Riter, King, and Lund as such committee. A. bill,H. F. No. 21, for the better pni-tection pni-tection of domestic animals from damage by barbed wire fences was called up in te order and read the second time. Hatch moved an amendment that the word "six' be stricken out and the word four" be inserted, thereby making the section read and all persons constructing or maintaining a barbed wire fence shall be required to place on the top of such fence a board not less than one inch in thickness and four inches -in width Amendment lost.
