Show Huntington's Scheme Works "Well. J New Yobk, January 25. C. P. Huntington 13 rapidly consummating the scheme that was outlined some time ago. It is to merge the companies composing the Huntington system east of the Mississippi in one operate ing company. The system makes up a line from New Orleans to Newport News, Ky., and includes the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. Rail-road. It is not improbable that before long Huntington will have secured connections to New York, and thus accomplish his ambition am-bition to span the continent with steel. ' ' " , ' ' v.- . Huntington's scheme to tap the northwest grain territory in order to make a tonnage for the Chesapeake & Ohio to Newport News is maturing. Huntington, although not given to speculation of the style that Gould indulges in, is a great moving power in the market. If Huntington does as much for his system east of the Mississippi as he did for the system west of it, a good value will be put on its stocks and bonds. The distribution distri-bution of earnings on the Southern Pacific system is enough to provide for a fair ratio of interest on all classes of securities that before-were subject to the possibility of being be-ing wiped out, or scaled down, or assessed. |
