Show Supt. Welling resigns FARMINGTON Dr. Lawrence Welling, superintendent of the Davis School District, submitted his resignation to the Davis Board of Education during the board's regular meeting Tuesday night. The resignation, which Dr. Welling stated is effective July 1 , 1987, or "at the pleasure of the school board," was the result of legislation which became law on Tuesday giving educa tors an early retirement incentive. A number of other education retirements are expected to take place throughout the district. He has worked in the district for 35 years, beginning as a teacher, and then holding positions posi-tions as school principal and assistant superintendent. superin-tendent. Board president Sheryl Allen, in accepting the resignation, said that when "a superintendent superinten-dent retires, it presents the greatest challenge of all. Dr. Welling has served well and capably. His hardest labor was to run the school district and be at the state legislature." Other board members expressed their appreciation appre-ciation to him for his years of service and "capable "cap-able leadership." Board member Henry Heath said Dr. Welling "can be replaced, but his shoes cannot be filled." He commended the superintendent for his professional manner, and reported that it has been said of him, "that no one in education could manage crisis as well."
