| Show I Policemen Thomas Case The case of Thomas F Thomas the police officer charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to do bodily harm came up in the istrict Court this morning It will be remembered that in August 1883 Marshal Burt was killed while trying to arrest the negro Harvey Harvey shooting him with a rifle When Harvey was taken to the City Hall it is claimed that he was taken into a room and there assaulted by Thomas The subsequent lynchinjr of Harvey has nothing to do with the case in hand The entire morning was occupied with an endeavor to secure a jury The widespread I wide-spread notoriety attendent upon the fate of Harvey made the securing of impartial impar-tial and unbiased jurors a matter of difficulty The regular panel was ex hausted with the box still unfilled and a special venire was issued returnable at 2 pm The special venire was returned at 2 p m but was exhausted with one juror lacking Another venire was issued to secure the twelfth juror buthad not been returned up to time of going to press y |
