Show A CANDIDATE FOR THE PEN John Nelson a Noted Utah Horse Thief Brought Back From Moil tana to Answer to the Law Sheriff Hutchings of Beaver county I SheroHutchigs from Dillon Montana Mon-tana bringing with him the Southern Utah horse thief John Nelson who was lodged in the city jail for safe keeping preparatory to going to Beaver The facts connected with Nelsons career areas are-as follows About the first of last June J Nelson stole and ran off with a pair of horses belonging be-longing to John Ilannifer wno lives near Frisco He managed to safely escape detection de-tection until he reached Logan where he was caught sight of and arrested by a constable from Tintic In returning with the thief to the place of his crime he was given permission to step out on the platform of the moving train from where he jumped off and escaped the careless officer when within three miles of his destination All track of Nelson was lost to the searching officers until a telegram to Sheriff Hutchings dated Bannock Montana of the 12th inst apprised him I that Nelson had been arrested and was held in custody awaiting orders Mr Hutchings repaired at once to Marshal Ireland and obtained a requisition from Governor Murray to the Governor of Montana for the escaped prisoner On reaching Dillon the visiting Sheriff I armed with all the necessary requirements require-ments of law to procure his man Went directly to the county jail and recognized Nelson at first sight having known him for years In the afternoon Nelson learning that he was to be returned to Beaver sent word to Sheriff Hutchings that he would like to see him in compliance com-pliance with which the officer called Nelson said he was glad to get out of the Dillon tombs and that it was unnecessary for him to go further in making sure of I what he wanted He said he would waive all rights guaranteed him by the Constitution I tution of the United States and submit I freely to be returned to Utah Accordingly Accord-ingly he was put aboard the cars with his feet shackled to the seat and doubly secured se-cured by handcuffs during the night The I sheriff arrived safely with Nelson last night and will leave in the morning for I Beaver where a preliminary examination I examina-tion will probably be held on arrival pending the sitting of the September term I of Court Nelsons parents are old residents of I Utah and reside at Logan In Montana young Nelson is said to be a road agent I of a very hard formation |
