Show DISMISSED The Commission has completed part of its work of canvassing the returns of the late election The most important question ques-tion that came before them was the charge of fraud in Summit County It is inaccurate inaccu-rate to term Mr Eldredges letter and suspicions charges of fraud they were insinuations of fraud Specific charges wero not made but Mr Eldredge and his party desired the Commission to investigate in-vestigate the election proceedings in Summit County to see if some fraud did not exist The only ground for such a request was the fact that had the Judges of Election and the electors of Park City I and thereabouts so chosen they might have committed a fraud The same might be said of any precinct in Utah The Commission very properly dismissed the matter and from the very vagueness of Mr Eldredges letter it is difficult to see how they could have done otherwise For a long time it has been a matter of common talk that the parties in Summit County wore so nearly ballanced that there was some doubt as to whether the Peoples party would be able to carry the election the result of the last election has shown that they could not Park City is the most prosperous mining camp in Utah and is continually and rapidly growing and the people who engage in mining as a I rule do not belong be-long to the Peoples party The members of the Peoples party in Summit County as well as elsewhere all belong to the Mormon church and the party grows just so fast as the church grows and no faster Not so with tho mining population It grows as grows the mines and as et cry one knows the mines at the Park are more prosperous now asa as-a whole than ever before In this simple fact can be found a full explanation the defeat of the Peoples party without any resort to charges of fraud on the part of its opponents If the mines in Summit County should fail it is more than likely that such a failure would soon restore the Peoples party to political supremacy there because the mining population would migrate to other places The defeat of tho Peoples party in Summit Sum-mit County is easily traceable to the most natural of causes and any fair minded man will come to that conclusion if ho will but study these causes |
