Show I MR WOOD ON EVOLUTION Listened to by n Large Audience Last Evening There was a large assemblage of people peo-ple at the Baptist Church last evening when Rev L L Wood took up the subject sub-ject of Evolution according to previous previ-ous announcement Mr Wood gave the subject a most thorough handling from his point of view Rev Mr Wood claimed there can be no wedlock between Christianity i and Evolution that all must necessity in cleaving to one reject the other He asked whether or not it is easier to believe be-lieve that God created the universe and have it all settled in a nutshell or that several little pieces of nothing united in some mysterious manner to make a start i ana then the start once made all else be evolved out of it Mr Woods then endeavored daavored to show that all animals and I races were made distinct and how attempts at-tempts to change them were all failures by bringing forth and sighting the instances in-stances where hybrids are formed He said also that a belief in the Bible does not conflict with science As confict s an illustration illustra-tion he spoke of the claim made by Robert Ingersoll that had the earth ceased to revolve at the time of the battle of the children of Israel that the friction created thereby would I have burned a piece of coal three times the size of the earth This seemed reasonable for a time but further investigations of science sci-ence are showing that in some instances friction does not create heat He also I cited instances where science and the Bible conflict with regard to the time of creation and how gradually further developments ce velopments of scientific men were proving prov-ing that fossils said to have taken millions mil-lions of years to form are proven to have been made ie a few thousand years In conclusion he called the people to judge of the classes by the fruits they produce pruce Mr Wood will take up the subject again on Sunday next All who take an I interest present in the subject are invited to b t I |
