Show POLITICAL FORECAST These are days of rapidtransit by land and by sea The people hare caught the spirit which controls our great railroad and steamship lines They have learned to think and act fast That is not all j they have acquired the habit of prospecting pros-pecting looking far into the future and planning for success in political as well as in business matters I A year will have elapsed ere the parties par-ties of the country will assemble in convention con-vention for the purpose of nominating candidates for the two highest offices within the gift of the peopje yet the question who should be nominated nomin-ated is being discussed in every i hamlet in the Union Party managers are more or less active in the interest of their favorites The people themselves busied with the affairs af-fairs of everyday life find both time and inclination to inform themselves as to all that is transpiring The politicians may plan but at the proper time the people will make known their preference as between be-tween candidates and parly platforms This interest on the part of the people quietly manifested though it may be is the safeguard of the Republic We must remember all the while that the people constitute the parties and that the latter are indispensable in a country governed as this is In addition to the Presidential nominations nomin-ations the political forecast of the people peo-ple is busy with the Speakership of the nest House of Representatives and the prospective action of Congress on measures meas-ures of great public importance Mr Carlisle and Mr Randall are apparently ap-parently tho only possible rivals for the I Speakership Public opinion seems to be to tho effect that Mr Randall will withdraw from the contest and that the reelection of Mr Carlisle is certain In regard to the coming Congressional action the public mind evidently thinks that the foremost and paramount issue is the reduction of the revenue surplus Tho public evidently thinks too that the tariff question will not disturb the harmony of tho Democratic party as represented rep-resented in Congress The people are of I the opinion that the Democrats in Con t L = o gross will be united in action that the j all strength of the party Congressional representation will be utilized for the Benefit of the Nation The public also has a wellgrounded notion that the InterState Commerce law will be improved and strengthened that it will emerge from its chrysalis I state and that the close of the1 Fiftieth Congress will see the InterStale law a law indeed |
