Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the Editor It seems I cant can't pick up a copy of the he Horizon without reading someone's someone's someone's some some- ones one's whining about the college parking parking park- park ing ng situation We determined that the scarcity carcity of parking at school will be ameliorated by the building of a new campus Oh boy has bought into nto the same delusion that afflicts our lawmakers all our problems will go away if we just throw more money at them I dont don't mean to suggest that the Jordan Campus is not needed but to imply that its construction is merely to alleviate parking woes is ludicrous Other suggestions are just as lous The building of a parking terrace terrace terrace ter ter- ter- ter race is a stopgap measure at best and will result in worse traffic during construction construction construction con con- as well as increased tuition costs to pay for it Suggestions to increase time between classes are futile at best and to simply cease enforcement of parking restrictions is laughable Wake up folks The only way to improve congestion at the college regardless of location is for students to get a grip on reality I have never neverseen neverseen neverseen seen a full UTA bus to or from the college and I only rarely see students riding together I can only surmise that students at are learning nothing about common sense Twenty bucks a month to UTA beats hell out of gassing my car fighting my way through traffic and spending weeks trying to weasel out of parking tickets I know I deserve for parking illegally Im I'm sure its it's a waste of time to write this since most people want to pretend pretend pretend pre pre- pre pre- tend its it's someone else's problem Nevertheless there can be no doubt that if every loser who persists in driving driving driving dri dri- ving in his or her own car every day were to try riding the bus or carpooling carpooling carpooling carpool- carpool ing there would be plenty of room for forthe forthe forthe the folks who really need to park The college administration is being unfairly in this matter as are the campus police and parking enforcement However the administration can help The University of Utah provides yearly bus passes for extremely low prices Their partnership with UTA is of course based on volume they simply have more students willing to ride the thebus thebus thebus bus to school But instead of spending our tuition on new parking decks should provide discounted bus passes and other perks for those of us with the sense and consideration not notto notto notto to blindly pack our already bulging parking lots lots Michael Sch warring Computer Science |
