Show Paul Taylor Company Inspires Crowd By Leslie Merrill Staff Writer Last Saturday night students and members of the community were treated to an entertaining performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company The show had a variety of dance styles and music If you are interested in dance at all there was something there for you The show started off with a very classical dance to excerpts from Symphonies No 1 and 2 by Franz Schubert In this segment called Mercuric Tidings the dancers made difficult moves look graceful Through out this part it seemed almost as if there were several different dances all on stage at the same time Two or three separate groups would be dancing as if they were the only ones on stage After the first 15 minute intermission intermission intermission sion the second segment entitled Last Look began There were mirrors around the dimly lit stage which caused an eerie effect The dance was very modem and was preformed to specially composed music by Donald York There were many solo dance pieces during Last Look Funny Papers started after the second intermission In the program it was dedicated to all those who before reading the front page news turn rum to the funnies first The music in this section included Im Popeye the Sailor Man Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini and Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor On the Bedpost O Overnight gh 1 This show was good for people who have a broad range of dance inter inter- ests It was amazing to see how the same dance group can go from graceful in one part to very quick modem modern movement to funny and loose in other parts The Paul Taylor Dance Group is very talented If you ever have a chance to go see them take it You may not like all the parts but at least one of them will really entertain you |
