| Show Wilds ide it feels so good good it it looks like love H Jim Healis Staff f Writer ROM the Heavy Metal F FROM depths of rock and roll comes a band called With a mix of sounds ranging from hard and heavy to beats this band has successfully started its career and is on its way to heavy metal stardom The band members come from many different places places- Seattle LA and of all places West Point Academy These guys came together by a stroke of luck We wanted a killer double guitar attack which takes a special chemistry between players No kidding Luckily the first person we met in town was the one we knew we wanted said Drew Hannah of lead guitarist Brent Woods Being partial to rock bands it can be hard to give a fair rating of this album isn't fair though Hannah lead vocalist sounds like a mix between Stephen Perry and nd Sabastian Bach Skid Row music plays by no wins Hang On Lucy the first track on the CD is a song about about- a hooker and a junkie the band knew all too well It shows that this is a new band to the professional music scene scene Its lyrics dont don't tie together well and the rhythm iY f W f r. r to i 17 f 7 r v ott ot i X 1 t A I T Ti i W r fF r doesn't follow the song Looks Like Love is a strong composition It really rides well in lyrics rhythm and melody This song is a ashoo ashoo ashoo shoo in for the top 10 How Many Lies is a well rounded tune about a female who had a tendency to sleep with everybody in town says Hannah No matter how many fans the band has nobody could possibly love the music better than us We live and breathe it says Hannah This album comes across in that same manner tries their best to make a good sound for the rock and roll scene and succeeds Lastly for all those who like to travel to see a good rock band is playing playing playing play play- ing at Bangles July 29 in Denver Sky Cries Mary the seventies relived From their first release on onan onan onan an American label I can seewhy see why Sky Cries Mary started with a European one It is a band with a cultural mixture of everything you can have in music After listening to the album Exit at the Axis I felt torn between the seventies and nineties s This music suc suc- blends the two eras The band has a good ear for dance tunes and really strives to make their first attempt attempt attempt at at- tempt at dance music a good one Hey man its it's a Doors Invasion invasion invasion in in- I thought afterward Sky Cri Cries es Mary seems to be infatuated with the Doors sound and uses Jim Morrisons Morrison's technique of singing singing singing sing sing- ing on most of their tracks I would p put t this album in inthe inthe the n nostalgic African c fri ca n tribal modern category Better yet no category at all The liThe Elephant Song is very psychedelic and floats in the reality non reality non reality of sound and space Sky Cries Mary integrates many different beats and melodies from African drumming drumming drumming drum drum- ming to Hindu chanting All together it gives a good musical musical musical musi musi- cal experience for Doors poors fans who want ant something new Exit at the Axis also gives a good performance for those people who like to out with a good tune Although they meet the demand of today's nostalgic youth Sky Cries Mary ne needs ds to realize that the seventies are over I 5 1 |
