hammond who has just completed a missionary course and will be leaving saturday on a mission to the british isles via new york city A very successful and pleasant shower was given monday afternoon by B redd and mrs jack nielson for their sister mrs jordan formerly miss helen hammond there was the usual array of nice gifts refreshments were served and a pleasant evening enjoyed by all present mr and mrs jordan leave shortly for san francisco to make their home the daughters of the utah pioneers met wednesday afternoon at the home of emma wood in honor of her birthday pioneer recipes was the lesson and a play across the river was read this play was written by mrs sara H black of monticello and received high honor at a contest at provo last year the play was produced in a program at the alpine summer school on the 26 of july 1936 friends of mrs anna prince redd of provo formerly of monticello will be pleased to know that she was the winner of the annual eliza R snow contest of 1936 with her lovely poem no beauty Is there were contestants mrs redd was congratulated very redd was congratulated very highly on the dignity of her contribution trib ution A photo of the author and her week end and report a delightful outing there is some of the most remarkable scenery in that locality to be found anywhere and it is well worth any ones time who has not seen it to make the trip of about 75 miles from monticello to view it at this point the san juan river makes a number of long sweeping bends that bring the stream back to within a few hundred feet of the starting point af after fixtures in the he new blanding school building as a subcontractor and f while at the present time a SI salt t lake firm is is apparently in line for the contract having considerably underbid mr robson I 1 there is a possibility at least of a change being made as it is extremely doubtful that the salt lake firm can break even on the job operating at that great distance from the work with the waits and delays incident to such a contract the many friends of mr robson will hope that he succeeds in landing the contract and at a price that will show a profit seeking a new catchy name for its
