Show blanding seeks new water system hope to resuscitate P W A project approved before re binding of department despite the determination of the administration to curtail expenditures and balance the national budget and the rescinding rescind ing of P W A activities some of the p prominent romi nent citizens of blanding are hopeful and even enthusiastic in a strong effort they are making to revive a water works project approve approved d several months ago by the P W A and designated as project no 1125 dr I 1 M cohn did considerable work when in salt lake city two or three weeks since contacting various officials who might be able to shed a little light on the matter and digging out the records of the case he returned to blanding with the firm conviction that the much needed improvement pro could be achieved by a determined and aggressive campaign on the part of the town board mayor and other officials he has since been agitating and forcing the question and last week thursday was instrumental in dispatching a letter to congressman abe murdock of the first district from which the following paragraphs are excerpts in a letter dated jan 10 1938 mr D D mckay regional supervisor per visor civilian conservation corps salt lake city stat states es 1 I 1 was informed positively by mr harry jensen deputy director of W P A that P W A project no 1125 has been and is still approved by the state director and by the washington office and all that is lacking is the appropriation or allocation of funds this statement is concurred in by sir mr summer G margetts chief of the utah planning board this blanding water project is known as utah project no 1125 P W A this project is on the approved list and all that is now necessary is to obtain the appropriation or allocation to the P W A for this blandin blanding g project the total estimated cost is and a grant has been requested for 45 per cent of that amount and a loan of 55 per cent the project as now on record is to consist of the replacement of the wood stave pipe line in the town water works system with cast iron pipe and fittings and the necessary work pertinent thereto this project was submitted in in J july u 19 1936 6 and approved in the fall of 1936 1 I as blanding town mayor and the town board are fully prepared and do hereby give our official approval for this project in accordance with the terms thereof we are also ready to immediately take all necessary legal steps to guarantee by acceptable bonds the towns share of this project turn to page 16 column five blanding water continued from page 1 the letter bears the signatures of mayor marvin lyman and dr I 1 M cohn if therla there is any possible chance of bringing the project to life we are sure that congressman murdock murdoch will do so as he is a live wire very progressive in his ideas and always willing to do everything possible in the interests of his clients the best luck to our blanding friends in their tays s to resuscitate this very necy project which was a victim of tle the general order for the expiration of P W A expenditures blanding is badly in need of a better and more adequate water supply and we earnestly hope that they may get it |
