Show NAVAJO INDIANS PLAN A MASS PROTEST MEET county Commis commissioner herheim hehlert redshaw who is a great friend of the navajo J indians is in receipt of a letter from john morgan an educated indian living at shiprock N M that hat t un burdens the woes boes of the smaller indian stock raisers of the reservation it seems that thi government s z soil c comer on er plan t lat de nianda a reduction of Lv estock on V NN pien langa banga of tha re ii iwer Z to recoup the forage is causing much worry to the tha smaller livestock owner who has only enough stock to keep him and his family alive this class maintains that it is not fair f air to cut all owners alike in the reduction plans it is maintained that the larger owners can still live even though their herds be materially reduced but that the smaller owner cannot maintain himself should his small flock be reduced in the same proportion it is also maintained that the indian tribal council composed largely of the larger herd owners is divided on the matter and that owing to the governments attitude it looks as though the interests of the smaller owners will not be considered in order to get the their r case before washington tl the 1 smaller owners are banding together conducting meetings and attempting to formulate petitions and plans to lay before congress to remedy rem edythe the outline of the plan to this end meetings are being held at the different indian headquarters in the reservation and mr redshaw has been appealed to to call a meeting of the various municipal and civic bodies of san juarl juan county to be held in monticello on may 19 to hear the pleas of the indians and join in petitions hocur to cur congressmen for proper relief mr redshaw has replied to the plea and has made arrangements r a meeting to be held in monti aly n on the date set all civic tes les of the county are invited 0 o attend and hear what the indians have to say it is understood also that the indians in order to conduct the proceedings according to accepted civilized procedure will bring an indian musical aggregation to the meeting to afford the proper atmosphere of attraction H E blake |
