Ward was perhaps the meet's top male athlete, winning each of tis individual events. Hillcrest . on the boy's title as expected, while Clearfield finished second. Layton was fourth, Davis sixth, Bountiful 13th and Viewmont 21st. In the girls competition, Weber won its fourth straight title, doubling doubl-ing second place Alta with 138 oints to 69 for the Hawks. Clearfield Clear-field was fifth, Davis ninth, Layton 10th, Woods Cross 13th, and Viewmont View-mont 20th. Bountiful failed to score in the finals. ' In the boy's finals, Ward was the only triple winner. His times of 11.15 in the 100, 48.82 in the 400 and 22.33 in the 200 were not state records, but were remarkable feats, especially the 200 meter time. That race came right after he had run the lead off leg of the medley med-ley relay. Brannan's vault, his best ever, came late in the afternoon. He beat out Hillcrest's Matt Snyder, who's 15-0 vault was the closest anyone other than Snyder himself came all year to matching Brannan. Bran-nan's Bran-nan's height is better than any collegians col-legians are achieving at that level. In the 1600 meter race, Woods Cross junior Matt Roat edged Davis' Kurt Black, winning in 4:22.54. Roat and Black have been 'the class of distance running all season, and the win by Roat avenged an earlier loss to Black in region finals. There were no other winners from south Davis County, although John Wagstaff of Layton won the 110 hurdles, Lance Robert of Clearfield took the 800, Black won the 3200 on Friday, Clearfield's Craig Carter won both the discus and shot put, and Clay Singley of Davis was champ in the javelin. There were no local state girls champions, the closest being Linda Zaugg of Clearfield in the 300 hurdles, hur-dles, and the Davis High medley relay team. However, many local tracksters did finish in the top six and earn medals. A complete recap of the state meet, with names of local medalists, medal-ists, will appear in Thursday's Clipper Sports. .
