Skaters shine at Phoenix The Utah Figure Skating Club made a great showing in the 10th annual Phoenix Fiesta Skate April 24-27. Seventeen Utah Skaters participated in the competition which brought together 45 skating clubs from 10 states, the biggest group yet for the Phoenix competition. competi-tion. The competition was held at two rinks, the Ice Palace and the Oceanside Skating Rink. TENTH in the nation, Holly Cook took second in figures, first in short program, first in long program prog-ram and First overall. In junior ladies Lisa Herzog took 1 1th in figures, fi-gures, fifth in short program, 11th in long program and 11th overall. Christine Adams took seventh in figures, fourth in the short program, prog-ram, fifth in the long program and fifth overall. Nicole Garrett was eighth in figures, third in short program, third in long program and skated a strong third overall. Heather Sniteman of Farming-ton Farming-ton skated her first time in the Novice ladies division. She was third in figures, third in freestyle and first overall, qualifying her for a final round where she finished fourth overall. Heather was also honored by receiving the coveted Tower Plaza Trophy for her artistic freestyle performance. CLAY Sniteman of Farmington finished third in figures, first in freestyle and first overall in the Intermediate In-termediate men division. Shannon Smith of Layton skated in the Juvenile Juve-nile girls division finishing first in the initial round and first in the final -round.? Kevin .Garrett,. in Sub-., juvenile men, was third in figures, first in freestyle and third overall. Shaunna Smith of Bountiful, was ninth in figures, seventh in freestyle frees-tyle and seventh overall in Sub-juvenile Sub-juvenile group three. Tracy Alle- man finished ninth in figures, 10th in freestyle and eighth overall in Sub-juvenile group B. Amby Pew finished 13th in figures, third in freestyle and fifth overall in sub-juvenile sub-juvenile group A. IN PRELIMINARY Ladies, a field of 60 young ladies. Amy Garrett Gar-rett finished 11th in figures, eighth in freestyle, and 1 1th overall. Holli Lasater finished 13th in figures, fifth in freestyle and ninth overall. In group A Macy Pew finished 1 1th in figures, 1 0th in freestyle and 10th overall. Julie Guinn was second in figures, seventh in freestyle and second overall. Julie then went to the final round where she finished fourth. In' Preliminary men Bobby Thompson finished fourth in figures, fi-gures, second in freestyle and secnd overall. Denny Howey was second in figures, third in freestyle and fourth overall. |
