Wootton, prominent promi-nent southeast citizen, Monday announced his retirement as head of the Utah state bureau of identification. He has held the position since April 1, 1927. Mr. Wootton, 67, was appointed ap-pointed to the departmet by the late Gov. George H. Dern after serving two years as deputy warden of Utah State Prison. No successor has yet been named by the board of managers, manag-ers, composed of the governor, attorney general and the highway high-way patrol superintendent. The veteran state employ? compiled a distinguished record in law enforcement prior to as- -suming the state post. In 1912, he joined the Ogden police department de-partment and rose to detective, leaving in 1917 to join the staff of the Weber County sheriff's office. Mr. Wootton was first president presi-dent of the Utah Peace Officers Assn., which he helped organize in 192L |
