Show Legion Corps Gets Ready For Convention The state championship Legion Le-gion drum and bugle corps from Sugar House Post 65 is practic- " ing three times a week these days in preparation for participation partici-pation in the national contest in San Francisco in September. The boys put on an exhibition drill and concert at the annual post outing at Lagoon last week. Another feature at Lagoon was an exhibition game between the post's junior ball club and the Bennion - Bennett team from downtown. In addition there were special spe-cial events for the youngsters, a big picnic luncheon, swimming swim-ming and dancing and a general good-time for everyone. The boys' ball team which played a highly successful season sea-son under the guidance of Clay Mills, Sheb -McGhie and Ab Ward of the post's athletic committee, com-mittee, received their new uniforms uni-forms last, week down at the Petty Motor Co.. team sponsor, and appeared in them for II le first time at the Lagoon contest. con-test. The post musicians, elated over their victory at Price, are now campaigning for uniforms which they will wear to the national na-tional Legion convention in San Francisco next month where they will compete for national honors. McDonald and Max Young were in charge of general arrangements arrange-ments for the big doings Friday. At the Price convention young Melvin C. Husbands, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford J. Husbands, gave an address on his recent trip to Washington as a delegate to the annual Legion "Boys' Nation." |
