Show RESIDENTS OF SOUTHEAST GET CHEAPER TAXI RATES Culminating a long campaign hy the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce, working with city officials of-ficials and the operators of the Yellow and Checker cab services, a Sugar House taxi zone will be established Sept. 1 with zone rates radiating from the business center here, resulting jn considerable consid-erable saving in fares to riders in this area. Heretofore, taxi service in this area has been based on the city-wide city-wide zone plan, with the result that patrons in this section making mak-ing short trips Within the area, have had to pay the same rate as if they had ridden out from town. The new zone rates are illustrated in the Yellow cab advertisement on page 5 of this week's Bulletin. The 35-cent zone includes the area between 17th S. and Stratford Strat-ford and between 7th and 15th E.; the 60-cent rate covers the area from Browning to 2800 S. and from 5th to 21st E., and the 75-cent area extends from Main, to 28th E. between Browning; and 3150 S., Outside of this last-zone last-zone the rate is 75 cents plus 15 cents per additional round-trip mile. Coincident with the announcement announce-ment of the rate change, the public safety department has-designated has-designated the taxi cab stand for Sugar House as the south curb of 21st S. running west from the crosswalk at the west end of the plaza monument. This is the area immediately in front of Jim's Hamburger stand and the Rockwood Furniture store. A phone is being installed there to insure prompt cab service. The establishment of the new zone rate schedule and the stand resulted from a series of meetings meet-ings between the chamber public pub-lic affairs committee, headed by Horace B. Richards and including includ-ing Grant Midgley, Willard Richards and Sid Horman, with Executive Secretary Con D. Shard, Sh-ard, and Public Safety Commissioner Commis-sioner L. S. Romney, and Charles A. Boynton Jr. and Lyle B. Nicholes representing respectively respec-tively the Salt Lake Transportation Transpor-tation and the Utah Transportation Transporta-tion companies. |
