Show Eibcrt R. Curtis Named L DS. Men's Mutua! Superintendent Hiibert K. Curtis, one of the younger Sugar House "old-timers" "old-timers" who were honored on Founders Day last month, was this week named as the new superintendent, of the Yqung Men's Mutual improvement Association As-sociation of the L-D.S. Church. In his new position, Mr. Curtis will have charge of a vast network net-work of "Mutuals" which are organized in the Americas, Europe, Eu-rope, and the Pacific islands. Long Church Record His service to the Church has been long and varied, with many positions of responsibility. He is currently serving as president presi-dent of the Sugar House Stake. From 1941 to 1945 he directed activities of missionaries in ifhe Western States Mission as their president. Upon his return he became secretary of the General Melchizidek Priesthood Committee Com-mittee of the Church. Mr. Curtis will take the place of George Q. Morris, who recently re-cently was chosen president of .the Eastern State Mission. Announcement An-nouncement of Mr. Curtis' appointment ap-pointment was made by the L.D.S. First residency. S. H. Leader Mr. Curtis has long been identified iden-tified with Sugar House in business busi-ness circles. At present he is president of the Curtis Builders' Build-ers' Supply Co., director and secretary of the Curtis Coal Co., director of A. R. Curtis & Sons Co., and president of the Mountain Moun-tain Finance Co. For 13 years Mr. Curtis was associated with the " Sugar House Lumber and Hardware Company as credit manager. Later he became law clerk with the Home Owners Loan Corporation. For eight years, Mr. Curtis was general sales manager of the Ex-Cel-Cis Beauty Products Company. Brigham Young Descendant A great-great-grandson of Brigham Young and his first wife, Miriam Works, Mr. Curtis was born in Salt Lake City, April 24, 1901. His educational training was taken at L.D.S. High School, L.D.S. Business College, the University of Utah, and he is a graduate of the Sales Analysis Institute of America at Chicago. From 1921-23, Mr. Curtis was a missionary for the Church in Great Britain, where he successively succes-sively served as secretary to Pres. George Albert Smith, the late Orson F. Whitney, and Pres. David O. McKay. He married Luceal Rockwood in the Salt Lake Temple in June, 1924. They are the parents par-ents of three children: Bruce R., now a missionary in Great Britain, Brit-ain, Kathryn and Luceal Jean. |
