Show Deseret Industries Marks 10th Anniversary September 1 The Deseret Industries, unique salvage and manufacture project proj-ect started by the First Presidency of the LDS Church during the depression, Wednesday celebrated the tenth anniversary of its lounamg. m a special meeting held in the work room auditorium audito-rium at the main plant, 2234 Highland Drive, church officials, employes and early associates in the project gathered for an hour-long program. Romney, assistant to the Council of Twelve, Howard J. McKean, first chairman of the Salt Lake committee, Edward M. Ashton, first vice chairman, Thomas B. Child, present chairman, Mary Grant Judd, member of the general gen-eral board of Relief Society, Stuart B. LDS Project The Deseret Industries is an enterprise set up by the LDS Church Welfare Plan to provide employment, training, rehabilitation rehabili-tation for unemployed and needy people. It is essentially a salvage project in which useable materials such as clothing, furniture fur-niture paper of all sorts are renovated ren-ovated for resale. At the plant some 95 workers are employed in one ef the several modernly equipped departments: carpenter carpen-ter shop, paint shop, upholstery, mechanical, laundry, bottle, paper, pa-per, cloth and wood salvage departments. de-partments.
