Show Committees Set Up at First Meeting of Granite District P-TA First meeting of the new school year was held Monday at Granite high school by the Granite District Council of Parent- Teachers Associations. Attending Attend-ing were council members, local lo-cal P-TA presidents and representatives repre-sentatives of principals, school district and regional P-TA. Coiuiey Speaks Superintendent David Gour-lev Gour-lev addressed the group which convened in the school's music room. He discussed current district dis-trict problems, including the school bus situation. Dr. O. C-England, C-England, superintendent of secondary- education in the district and Mr. Claude Lemmon, principals' prin-cipals' representative on the council also spoke. Mrs. Ure, regional P-TA director stressed the need for training children in the home. It is there, she stated, that they must learn reverence for schools and churches. Theme Theme of the year's program, according to council president, Mrs. George H. Jones is, "Unity for Strength and Progress." Other officers of the council which was elected last spring are: first vice president, Mrs. Everett Wood; second vice president, Mrs. Harold S. Broth-ers; Broth-ers; third vice president, Supt. David Gourley; secretary, Mrs. W. S. Cox; treasurer, Mrs. R. O. Horton; principals' representative, representa-tive, Mr. Claude Lemmon. Chairman Appointed Council members appointed four "liaison chairmen" to serve during the year as representatives representa-tives of the council in the various var-ious divisions of Granite district: dis-trict: Holladay, Magna-Garfield, Murray and Salt Lake. Those appointed: Mrs. Melvin Wright, llolladav; Mrs. T. L. Daniels, Magna-Garfield; Mrs. J. W. Woods, Murray and Mrs. Clarence Clar-ence Nielson, Salt Lake. In addition, 14 permanent chairmen were appointed to head committees on such important im-portant school matters as safety, health, hot lunch, radio and visual education. Chairmen appointed by the council include: Standard goals and unit report, re-port, Mrs. R. N. Crowell; pro gram, Mrs. Everett Wood; procedure, pro-cedure, by-laws and legislature, Mrs. Larson; membership, Mrs. los. Holland, magazine, Mrs. Cecil Jacobson; Bulletin, national nation-al and state and publications, Mrs. Frank Colton. ' Council representatives and hospitality, Mrs. Robert Fitts; public, Mrs. D. T. Trewin; high school and scholarship fund, Mrs. Clarence Neilson; health and summer programs, Mrs. George W. Cassity; hot lunches, Mrs. Edwin Smith; historian and bookshelf, Mrs. J. R. Pendleton; Pen-dleton; radia and visual education, educa-tion, Mrs. R. 0. Horton, and society, so-ciety, Mrs. R. O. Horton, and Mrs. R. A. Dust. |
