In our community com-munity there was the first Sugar Mill, the first major battle for religious freedom, the first 'Out of the High Rent District' slogan, and the first branch bank appointed ap-pointed by the Fereral Government Govern-ment We all know of the advan-i advan-i tages that have accured irom these many 'firsts.' We all know I (it can't be just wishful thinking) I that in the future we will continue con-tinue to build with more 'firsts.' We know this because our people., are born leaders through the" heritage that is theirs. The Sugar House Branch of the First National Bank of Salt. Lake opened its doors at '9:00 or. the morning of July 8. 1933. This was the first branch bank ap- pointed -by the Federal Govern-1 ment in the United States and was destined to serve "tpsS community com-munity for many, years to come. This institution has been faithr full in its service to our people ... it hag offered us safe investments in-vestments and savings accounts for the past eight years. Not once have we ever heard of an instance where this bank has failed in its many obligations. Under the capable direction of Heber F. Aldous, our long friend, and his assistants, this financial institution will serve us faithfully faithful-ly in the future. Let not one of us forget the foresight and courage cour-age displayed by this institution when it opened its doors for the first time. 1 |
