Show UTAH OBSERVES NAVY DAY OCTOBER 27 Navy Day is being observed today, to-day, October 27, Charles R. Mab-ey, Mab-ey, former Utah governor and national vice president, Navy League of the United States, announced. an-nounced. Governor Herbert B. Maw issued is-sued a Navy Day proclamation Wednesday, calling upon all Utahns, veterans, fraternal, religious, relig-ious, educational and civic organizations organ-izations to cooperate in giving suitable observance to Navy week Otto A. Wiseley, Navy Day state chairman, has appointed district dis-trict chairman over 'the state and suggested that the community committees arrange one or more of the following forms of observ-ance: observ-ance: Navy Day dinners, or luncheons, lunch-eons, Navy Day mass meetings, commemorative ceremonies in honor of the heroes, living and dead, of the community, school programs and religious services on Sunday. Two themes are stressed this year in connection with Navy Day, One is "Your Fleet Guaran-tees Guaran-tees Freedom," which is based on the fact that this Nation's best protection against future wars lies in strong Naval1 power; the other is that a great task lies ahead in defeating Japan after Germany is defeated. The civilian tribute to the Navy is in recogni-tion recogni-tion of the vital part played by the Fleet winning final1 victory. The American Navy was founded found-ed in October, 1775, by the Continental Con-tinental Congress and October 27 is the anniversary of the birth of President Theodore Roosevelt, so much of whose ;ife was devoted to establishing a sound Naval polt icy for the United States. . . .. .. |
