Show i Sperry Seniors Take Senior Top Spot The most successful Westminster Westmin-ster Junior Basketball League ended Saturday when Granite Furniture and Sperry Senior topped topp-ed sixteen teams consisting of about 200 young players. Sperry Junior wer the champions of the 1939 season; this team became the Sperry Seniors this year and again walked off with the laurels, this time for the senior division. Granite Furniture started the season as just another ball club but finished up as the most polished pol-ished junior team in the league and really deserved their decisive decis-ive triumph in the junior bracket, GRANITE ZONE DEFENSE AGAIN COMES THROUGH Granite Furniture fell back on their shifting zone defense in their win over Harry's Garage Saturday. Satur-day. The first half was all Granite; Gran-ite; the score at the half was 12-2 In the third period, however, Harry's Har-ry's Garage started rushing the Furniture five and the third quarter quar-ter ended 12-12. The last quarter was again Granit's and the score ended 19-14. Earl Fillmore, Granite Gran-ite forward, carried off scoring honors with 7 points while Wayne Bringhurst for the losers match-j match-j ed him. Glenn Dodge of Harry's i tossed in 6 counters. Merrill Davis Bob Smith, and Lee Petty each i registered 4 for the champions. "Blacky" Walton was again the pep in the Garage attack, playing play-ing a fast and effective floor game. In the other games played Saturday, Sat-urday, Parley's took third place i in the Junior division by defeat- i ing Bryan 25-14. Dick Brower tanked 11 points while Fairclough came through with 7 For the losers Cal Riggs led with 7 points In the final game Sperry Juniors i took fourth place by barely squeezing out a 3129 win over Highland Park.
