Show Ethel Clark's Radio Flashes - lit f 4 i.v - h-J .it I Fans have been asking for some background information on Jimmie Fidler, Hollywood's pioneer air-easter air-easter and columnist, whose previews pre-views and reviews of motion pictures pic-tures and stars are heard Monday afternoons. Once-upon-a-time, Jimmie Jim-mie was press agent for many of movieland's big name stars, including in-cluding Gloria Swanson, Rudy Valentino, Constance Bennett, Janet Gaynor, Clara Bow and many producers and directors. He turned radio commentator quite by accident in 1933 when asked to conduct an air interview on the old "Hollywood On the Air" series. Adding to her many other laurels, Dinah Shore, dark-eyed daughter of the south was inducted into the Seventh regiment of the New York state guard recently, by Captain Raymond McMurray. The last woman to receive this honor was the immortal Jenny Lind, back in 1852. In a special ceremony Dinah sang the Seventh Regiment's own song, "The Wearing of the Gray" and was given an overseas cap bearing the 7th's insignia. It's "Private" Dinah Shore, now. All top-flight boxing bouts staged by Promoter Mike Jacobs, including includ-ing championship contests, will be broadcast for another year over KLO and the Mutual Broadcasting system, and they will be presented by the present sponsor. The decision de-cision to renew the contract was spurred by the contributions these broadcasts have made to the national na-tional war morale program, and President Roosevelt's approval of the continuance of sporting events MISS DINAH SHORE during the war. Arrangements have been made to short-wave thf more important bouts to American Amer-ican soldiers stationed in distant areas of both hemispheres. Dr. Walter A. Maier, of the "Lutheran "Lu-theran Hour" points out that more chapels have been built by the government in military camps, and more chaplains are in militar-y j service, than in any previous war I "The spiritual welfare of the armec' forces," he continued, "is bemj carefully guarded, but the civihar population must also prepare itselJ for great moral and physical Strug i gles." |
