Show NOTES FROM U Of U 4 More than 300 high school students stu-dents from all parts of the stato gathered at the University of Utah last week for the annual Farensic Tournament, demonsta-ting demonsta-ting their ability to debate, oratory, ora-tory, impromptu and extempore speaking, and panel discussion. Organized and sponsored by the University Varsity debate squad, the meet was carried on under the auspices of the Utah State Teachers of Speech organ-ization. organ-ization. High schools represented at the tournament were Davis, Box Elder, Eld-er, Carbon, Richfield, Ogden, Mil-ford Mil-ford South Cache, North Cache, St. George, Wasatch Academy, Logan High School, Granite, Hur-rican, Hur-rican, Jordan, Pleasant Grove, Weber, Monroe, and the three Salt Lake City high schools. The "no decision" feature ol the annual Forensic Tournament was a strong point of the meet. Contestants were ranked according accord-ing to their individual performances perform-ances as superior, good, fair, and poor. The debate subject, "question of a year's military conscription after graduation from high school" and the extempore speaking speak-ing subject was Pan American relations. An award banquet Saturday afternoon climaxed the two-day meet. Winners in the five divisions divis-ions were presented with medals by the Deseret News, and the school of each winner received an honorary plaque. The University Univer-sity of Utah presented its traveling travel-ing trophy to the school which ranked highest in 'all activities. . COLLECT OLD KECORDS A drive to collect old phonograph phono-graph records, broken' or otherwise, other-wise, has been instigated by ihe University of Utah Mother's Club The records will be exchanged lor new ones, and these will be sent to army recreation centers. Collection Col-lection is made at the Union Building office on the U., campus. |
