Show SCOUT LEADERS ENCOURAGE CAMPING VICTOR JENSEN A boy's experience in scouting is centered around the out-of-doors, with hiking and camping activities aimed to develop citizenship, cit-izenship, was the conclusion of scout leaders at the recent Regional Reg-ional Conference with Chief Scout Executive James E. West. The big value in troop camping is the educational opportunities it affords af-fords for actual practice in citizenship citiz-enship fundamentals that underlie under-lie a democracy, the chief said. "It is essential that each troop should be set up to give camping a major emphasis as a vital p;v; t of the program of the patrols in the troop." he added. Dr. H. T. Plumb suggested ! that parents should get out and camp with their boys occassion-ally. occassion-ally. Some out-door activities that were recommended for troops or patrols are troop meeting in the open, afternoon patrol hikes, all day hikes and evening campfircs. also overnight and week-end j camps. |
