Show INDEPENDENT Sugar House. Utah Thursday, November 14, 19S7 Page 9 Von Luppman, Tamara Peterson, or Karen Pickering. Maysie had a no - slumber - party. We went to her house at 9 p.m. and then we went to a midnight show at the Utah Theatre. The shows were "Voodoo Woman,, and "Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein." Now you can understand why we didn't get much sleep. What did you kids do on Hallo-ween? I know lots of schools had "Moonlight Masquerades" on that night, and lots of kids went to spooky shows. But as for me and a group of other witches (just kidding), we went to Carolyn Day's cabin in East Millcreek Canyon. We went on a errie Hal-loween night walk. We didn't know but Carolyn's brother, Richard, and Reed Jensen, Thatch Moyle and Roger Taylor had come up with Mr. Day a little later and they had hidden up the road that we were taking our hike on. Mr. Day had to get us all scared and told us that three convicts had escaped from prison, but, of course, they weren't anywhere ar-ound. Big joke we thought. We started walking up the road and we heard a rock fall. We jumped out of our skins and started run-ning like a herd of antelope down that road, but my shoes were too big and they kept falling off. I guess we sounded like a flock of Screech Owls, too. Finally, we found out it was those boys and we all headed back for a chili-pastra- mi dinner that just hit the spot. The witches that were there were Lynnette Piatt, Merilee Piatt, Vee Drienne Horman, Vi-vian Paulsen, Sarah Soderborg, Naomi Vance, Bonnie Darger and Jean Riches. Bye Now, Lynne Life With Lynne HI! Boy, have I had a couple of weeks packed full of fun. First on the list every girl at Olympus High had a very special date with her dreamboat. Of course, you know the guys I'm talking about. You spell his name D-A-- The Girls Association of Olympus High had a Fathers' and Daughters' Night. The theme of the night was "Fling With Father." First, we all met in the auditorium and the fathers sang, "Daisy, Daisy, Give Me Your Answer True," only "Daisy Daisy" was changed to "Daughter Daughter." Then all the girls sang "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" to their dads. After that, everyone went to the gymna-sium for some light refreshment and dancing. They had some fun dance contests. The first one was a waltz and Evelyn Russell and her Dad won that one. Then they had a Charleston contest and Bir-die White and his daughter, Shir-ley, won that one. Saturday night was a night I didn't get very much sleep and neither did Maysie Kimball, La- - Pages From Grandmother's Scrapbook by Andrea Bollette "Go often to the house, of thy friends, for weeds soon choke up the unused path." Poem for Today "RESOLVE" Built on resolve, and not upon regret The structore of thy future, do not grope Among the shadows of old sins, but let Thine own soul's light shine on the path of hope. And dissipate the darkness. Wast not tears Upon the blotted record of lost years, But turn the leaf, and smile, oh smile to see The fair white pages that remain to thee. Conditions in mining have forced some Utah mines to shut down, others to cut production sharply and still others to operations to be able to continue to produce. One of the net results lost taxes. This loss must be met and the burden will fall on other taxpayers individuals and businesses. Healthy mining benefits all Utahns, so all should support efforts to return mining to its former vigor.
