Show American Cancer Society holds Local Confab According to a report from Mrs. Blanche Richards, 45S0 Holladay Blvd. who is chairman of the-Education Program of the local Cancer Can-cer Relief Society, the convention of the American Cancer Society, jheld on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Hotel Utah was an extremely interesting in-teresting and educational one. In addition to the fine array of speakers, those attending were shown a "sneak preview" of a film, entitled "Time and Two Women," Wo-men," which brought forward sharply the need of immediate action in the cure and control of this most dreaded of diseases. The theme of the convention was the "Study of Cytology, the Relation of the Individual Cells to Cancer." Brought forward was the news that a new method of detection has been developed by Dr. George Papanicolaou, well known specialist special-ist in the field of malignancy. This is a perfected smear test whereby the presence "of cancer cells can be detected before the onset of the disease has appeared. appear-ed. It is even possible by this test to locate the malignancy. The film, mentioned above, will not be released for public viewing until sufficient doctors have been trained in Cytology to take care of . and test the patients who will be requesting these tests. Under the direction of Wallace Toronto, executive secretary of the Utah branch of the Society, the convention opened at 8:30 a.m. through a day of films and lectures, lec-tures, to climax with a banquet at 6:30 on the Roof Garden. Among the eminent doctors lecturing lec-turing to those in attendance were Dr. Cyril T. Fullmer, head of the Cytology laboratories at the Holy Cross Hospital, Dr. E. G. Hol-strom, Hol-strom, Dr. Irving Ershler, Dr. J. H. Jones and Dr. Wallace F. Brooke. An interesting side of the con-1 con-1 vention was the outlining of the service policies and procedures of the organization, under the direction dir-ection of Mrs. Audrin Pextin.
